Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug abuse, or risky sexual conduct as a result of drug use may have caused the person to contract the disease. Folks who suffer from HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing problem prior to their drug abuse issue, often require rehabilitation services tailored to meet their specific demands and challenges. Some of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS very rarely take care of themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to preserve their health. Therefore, they arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority while also addressing other important concerns. Aside from the obvious requirement to supply medical services during treatment, individuals with HIV/AIDS should also tackle more deeply rooted problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Frequently, individuals have conditions in their lives that are strictly environmental which may have caused them to use alcohol or drugs, like oppressive situations within their lives or damaging relationships. These are the issues which rehab counselors will concentrate on as part of HIV/AIDS rehab services.
