Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug abuse, or risky sexual behavior as a result of abusing drugs could have caused to contract the illness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition prior to their substance abuse issue, typically require rehab services tailor-made to meet their specific needs and challenges. Many of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their health. Because of this, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other crucial concerns. Apart from the obvious necessity to supply medical services during rehabilitation, people with HIV/AIDS also have to tackle deeper problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Very often, people have situations within their lives which are strictly environmental which may have triggered them to turn to drugs or alcohol, such as oppressive circumstances within their lives or detrimental relationships. These are the concerns which rehab counselors will target as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
