Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to address both mental health and addiction concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health issues often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab professionals can help men and women through a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Offering a safe setting is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that could cut across their treatment plan and progress. Treatment counselors will continue to work to spot environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally stable and abstinen t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so they are better able to handle life situations better once they leave dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to drugs as an inferior option.
