Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations in the women's life which can be distinctive and traumatic. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues which can be specific to women. Research shows that women may also get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness because of dependency problems than males as a result. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug treatment centers which offer treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both common and gender-specific problems who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few programs that offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their young children.
