Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven very helpful in circumstances where standard rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in the women's life that are unique and distressing. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or another serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women may also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a result of addiction problems than males as a result. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender specific problems who have brought about their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities that provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for her children.
