Hearing impaired individuals tend to have an elevated probability of drug abuse issues because of their impairment, and rehab services must be available which cater to their needs. Individuals who are hearing impaired can appear alone, unmotivated, and be without goals for their impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then decide to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the emotional and psychological challenges that come with having this handicap in life.
