Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment facilities have fallen short, such as coping with situations inside a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other serious issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women may also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of dependency problems than males because of this. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to put off searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug treatment programs which provide rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, professionals help women target both general and gender specific issues who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and several centers which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
