A group home for someone who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for those in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending people who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home will help provide an appropriate environment to help sustain stability within their lives and have counsel and support within reach 24/7. Residents in a group home could be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at some time live independently not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain employment. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent option, but it is a feasible short term option for those who want to get their lives back together.
