Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to deal with both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved in drug abuse, as people who have mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to experience some sort of short-term relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals through a thorough rehab plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while also addressing drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe and secure setting is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things that could cut across their treatment plan and development. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things that must be addressed in order for the person to be mentally stable and abstinen t after they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to handle life situations more proficiently after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
