Individuals who are hearing impaired can feel alone, lack motivation, and goalless due to their impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then decide to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and have a temporary escape from the psychological and emotional problems that come with possessing this handicap in daily life. In the first place, detecting a substance abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, since these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue due to social stigmas attached to drug abuse. Having said that, drug treatment counselors who provide rehab to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are definitely a must, as well as rehab services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy offers a venue for important peer interactions so that rehabilitation clients can know that they're not alone, and that there's hope to resolve their problem with alcohol and drugs.
