Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to take part in rehab services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug treatment facility. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who decide on an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time every day or a few days a week. This is often helpful for individuals who have just completed a much more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs that provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehab option.
