A group home for a person who has been involved in drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. Instead of sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help sustain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents in the group home might be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or may be taking measures to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at some point live on their own away from the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short term option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
