A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which offers continuous support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home might help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. Residents in the group home may be involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home in order to at some point live on their own outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it is a feasible short term option for individuals who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
