Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven beneficial in circumstances where standard rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations in a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research shows that women also can get involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of addiction problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are designed in order that a women's needs will be the focus and priority.
