LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This can be an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe in a conventional treatment facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which need to be handled in order to recover. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, which is a good example of a thing that could be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
