Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in treatment services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to resolve substantial drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis each day or a few days a week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more beneficial rehab option.
