Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide treatment to address both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common circumstance for people involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some kind of short-term respite from their disorder. Treatment counselors will continue to work to spot environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things that should be addressed in order for the person to be mentally stable and abstinen t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more effective coping methods so that they are better able to handle life circumstances well after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
