LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This is sometimes a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Someone who is LGBT may not feel at ease inside a conventional rehabilitation program amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which should be resolved so that they can get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This circumstance is an extremely frequent trigger for substance abuse, and is also a good example of an issue that could be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
