Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where traditional rehab facilities have fallen short, like dealing with situations within a women's life which are distinctive and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another serious issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women may also become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness because of dependency problems than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Much like coed rehabs, drug and alcohol treatment programs which provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both basic and gender-specific issues who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few facilities which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
