People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This can be a quite challenging and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel relaxed within a traditional treatment center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be handled in order to recover. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is generally the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for drug use, and is also an illustration of something which would be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free from drugs and alcohol.
