Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where standard rehabilitation facilities have fallen short, including dealing with situations within a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women also can become involved in drug use more easily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of dependency issues than males consequently. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehab centers which offer treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender specific issues who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
