Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide treatment to address both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent circumstance for those involved in substance abuse, as those that have mental health disorders often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some kind of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help men and women using a thorough rehab plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health while addressing drug abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure setting is vital to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things which could compromise their program and progress. Treatment counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things that must be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and abstinen t after they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to handle life situations more effectively after they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to drugs as an inferior answer.
