Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to address both addiction and mental health issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for individuals involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of short-term respite from their disorder. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things that should be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and abstinen t whenever they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab that helps them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so that they are better able to handle life circumstances well once they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible solution.
