Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered like a significantly better option than jail time or heavy fines for individuals who have been convicted of any kind of drug or alcohol related crime. For example, a person who has been in prison for dui of drugs or alcohol may be eligible to get rehab services for their problem instead of serving time in prison. The judge might order the individual receive treatment, either alone or together with other sentencing. New offenders in particular are often given the ability to go with a criminal justice client rehab rather than other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it when it is a possibility. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is far more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been completed to observe how effective this approach is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehabilitation. All indicators appear to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that experience treatment have a much better possibility of remaining out of the system following rehab.
