LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and considered socially unwanted. This may be a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone who is LGBT might not feel safe inside a traditional treatment center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which should be resolved in order to get better. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and is also a good example of something which will be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
