LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This may be a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not exactly feel relaxed within a traditional rehab facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which have to be resolved so that they can get better. Rehab counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, and is an example of something which would be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a healthy life free from alcohol and drugs.
