Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where standard rehab settings have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other significant issues that happen to be particular to women. Studies show that women could also get embroiled in substance abuse more easily than men, and are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of drug abuse issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs that offer treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender-specific concerns which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
