Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where standard rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life which are distinctive and painful. Such difficulties may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other really serious issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe.
