Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug or alcohol use, or risky sexual behavior because of drug abuse may have caused the person to contract the disease. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing problem just before their substance abuse issue, often require rehab services tailor-made to satisfy their particular demands and problems. Many of these challenges are physical in nature, due to the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS almost never look after themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to maintain their health. As a result, these individuals arrive to rehabilitation in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority while addressing other important concerns. Aside from the obvious requirement to supply medical services during rehabilitation, people who have HIV/AIDS should also address more deeply rooted issues which brought about their drug or alcohol use. Often, people have situations within their lives that are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to drugs or alcohol, including oppressive conditions in their lives or negative relationships. These are the issues which rehabilitation counselors will focus on in HIV/AIDS rehab services.
