Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven very helpful in situations where conventional treatment settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life that are unique and painful. Such troubles may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women can also get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness due to dependency problems than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender specific issues which may have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, plus some centers which provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her young children.
