A group home for anyone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continual support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As opposed to sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help sustain stability within their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside in the group home may be getting involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life setup outside the group home to be able to at one point live independently away from the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment.
