Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services without the commitment you might usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People that choose an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and take part in therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis every day or a few days weekly. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For somebody with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment facilities which offer treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehabilitation option.
