Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or several days weekly. This can be very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For an individual with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehabilitation alternative.
