Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to address both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for folks involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of temporary respite from their disorder. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and abstinen t whenever they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so they are better able to deal with life circumstances more proficiently after they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
