Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to handle both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common circumstance for individuals involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health problems frequently medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to to feel some sort of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors can help men and women through a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while dealing with alcohol and drug abuse concerns. Providing a secure environment is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their program and progress. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things which should be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally stable and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab that helps them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life circumstances more proficiently after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
