A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but additionally, there are group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending individuals who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home may help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents inside a group home could be involved in rehabilitation services while in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at some point live independently not in the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a feasible short term option for those who making the effort to get their lives back together.
