Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide treatment to deal with both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for those involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health problems frequently medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to experience some kind of short-term relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation professionals can help individuals through a detailed rehabilitation plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health as well as dealing with drug abuse concerns. Providing a secure setting is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which may cut across their treatment plan and development. Rehab counselors will work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or any other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally healthy and sober t after they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which will help them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to handle life situations better if they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior answer.
