Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to take part in treatment services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve significant substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or a few days per week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed a much more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facilities which provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab choice.
