Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where traditional treatment settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in a women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other significant issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of dependency issues than males consequently. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug rehab facilities that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender specific issues which may have brought about their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few centers which provide rehab services to women provide client beds for their kids.
