Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional rehab facilities have fallen short, for example dealing with situations inside a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other serious issues which are particular to women. Research has revealed that women also can get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness due to drug abuse issues than males as a result. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug and alcohol treatment facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender-specific issues who have prompted their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from their female peers, and a few facilities that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
