A group home for someone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a place which offers continuous support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but there's also group homes for folks with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Instead of sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home may help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability within their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents within a group home could be taking part in treatment services during residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some point live independently outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, yet it's a viable temporary option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together again.
