Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment center. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve substantial drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People that choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehab services part-time each day or several days a week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a far more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For a person with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer rehab over a long-term basis will be the more effective treatment choice.
