Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations inside a women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or another serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women may also get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness due to addiction issues than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers that offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender-specific concerns who have triggered their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
