Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver rehab to handle both addiction and mental health concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for those involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to to feel some form of short-term relief from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors can help men and women through a comprehensive rehab plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health while also addressing alcohol and drug abuse problems. Providing a safe environment is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their treatment plan and development. Rehabilitation counselors will work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things that have to be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally healthy and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which helps them develop far better coping mechanisms so that they are able to better deal with life circumstances well if they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
