Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to resolve significant substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services part-time every day or a few days weekly. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For a person with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial treatment alternative.
