Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in treatment services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve substantial substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People who decide on an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or a few days per week. This is often helpful for individuals who have recently completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a short history of drug use which is really a really small number of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab centers that provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehab choice.
