Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have fallen short, for example coping with situations within a women's life that are unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or another serious issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also get embroiled in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to illness because of drug abuse issues than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, alcohol and drug treatment facilities that provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both standard and gender-specific issues which may have triggered their drug abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, and a few centers which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
