Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other serious issues that happen to be specific to women. Research has shown that women also can get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness because of dependency problems than males because of this. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehab programs which provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender specific issues which may have brought about their substance abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few facilities which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
