TRICARE is health care insurance that is offered to individuals in the armed forces of the United States. Substance abuse inside the military is more common than one would imagine, and the necessity to offer treatment to these individuals is a vital priority. TRICARE covers a number of rehabilitation services to address drug and alcohol dependence like detox services, as well as rehabilitation in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient settings. Individuals with TRICARE will of course need to obtain a prior approval before taking part in any type of rehab service, which can be organized using a regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient facility will be the preferred treatment option, TRICARE will cover a three week period or one inpatient stay in this program per benefit period which is every 365 days. There are specific limits as to the length of time a TRICARE member can stay in the inpatient center that accepts TRICARE, and there's typically a 30 to 45 day window that is covered. TRICARE also covers family therapy that may be very helpful, as it can certainly help include family members in the healing and process of recovery.
