A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continual support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As an alternative to sending those who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home will help offer an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside inside a group home might be getting involved in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside the group home so that they can at some time live independently outside the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short term option for those who are trying to get their lives back together.
